Valencia becomes the capital of women's football during the month of June
The Municipal Sports Foundation and Tour-Sport have presented this morning, at the facilities of the Turia River - Section III, the first edition of the València Cup Girls women's football tournament.
It is a female soccer competition that will be held on June 27, 28, 29 and 30 and will include the Under 12 (8 A-side), Under 16 and Open Age (11 A-side) categories.
The presentation ceremony was attended by the CEO of Tour-Sport, Fernando Brotons and Daniel Artíguez; representatives of various Valencian women's football clubs –among them, members of the board of Levante UD Femenino and Valencia CF Femenino–; companies linked to the development of sporting events, such as Transvia Sport, Kappa or Wits Company; and the Councilor for Sports and president of the Municipal Sports Foundation (FDM), Pilar Bernabé.
This initiative aims to give a new boost to the visibility of women's sport in Valencia, a safe city to host and carry out regional, national and international sporting events together to Tour-Sport’s experience in the organization of sports tourism events.
In this way, the València Cup Girls is born, a tournament that promotes youth but also competitive football, symbolizing another window to make women's sport visible and to value the growth of female soccer players, as well as the clubs work.
In this sense, the Councilor for Sports and president of the FDM, Pilar Bernabé stressed that “the València Cup Girls seeks to become the best women's soccer tournament in Spain. This project is joined by the Valencia City Council, in the year of the 40th Anniversary of the Sports Foundation, and a company such as Tour-Sport, which has extensive experience in organizing sporting events, such as the Costa Blanca Cup, which was born in 1994, and already then it activated feminine categories”.
Categories, fields and registrations
The categories that compete in València Cup Girls are: Under 12 (born after January 1, 2009), Under 16 (born after January 1, 2005) and Open Age (without restrictions of age). Three groups of 16 teams each for a total census of 48 teams.
The fields in which this tournament will take place come from the collaboration of the Valencia Municipal Sports Foundation and all of them are located in the old Turia riverbed. These fields are specified in the Bridge of the Exhibition, Section VI, Section II or Quatre Carreres.
The tournament will take place in a league phase between June 28 and 29 and the semifinals and final will be on June 30. Registrations can be made through the tournament website: www.valenciacup.com
Fernando Brotons, CEO of Tour Sport, has indicated that “this tournament tries to add the work of everyone for the visibility of women's sport and, in this specific case, with a discipline such as football and also from formative ages, but also competitive. At the same time, it is an event that allows us to offer a proposal so that sport, even more so in the times lived by Covid-19, does not stop, always complying with health measures, and continuing to promote the practice by girls and women".
“But also - Brotons has continued - it is an action to promote a tournament that is consolidated as a reference for women's football at an international level, starting this year with the participation of teams from the Valencian Community and the rest of Spain”.
Likewise, the also CEO of Tour-Sport, Daniel Artíguez, has underlined that “we have the experience acquired by our own participation in tournaments in another part of Europe and that we have already been developing since 1994 on the occasion of the Costa Blanca Club, in Benidorm , shaping a sports experience and an action on sports tourism. For this edition we are launching a proposal for three days of competition, with three categories each made up of 16 teams and a total planned figure of 48 teams. Without forgetting the application of security measures against the pandemic, the presence of federated referees, an experienced professional group and the fundamental support of the Fundación Deportiva Municipal de València, which we thank for believing in this project not only in the present, but also of future”.
